Gritty's World
The Calming Corner
"Big feelings happen to everyone. Let's help your body feel calm."
How are you feeling?
Every feeling is okay to have. Pick the face that matches yours — or head straight to a calm-down idea below.
Pick a calm-down idea
Tap one to see how it works. They all work for every feeling — pick whichever sounds good right now.
Take 5 slow breaths
- Sit up tall like a mountain goat.
- Breathe in slowly through your nose.
- Blow it out even more slowly, like you're cooling warm soup.
- Do it five times. Is your body slowing down?
Smell the flower, blow out the candle
- Hold up one finger. Pretend it's a flower.
- Smell the flower — breathe in through your nose.
- Now pretend it's a birthday candle.
- Blow it out slooooowly.
- Do it three more times.
5-4-3-2-1 senses
- Look around and find 5 things you can see.
- Find 4 things you can touch.
- Listen for 3 things you can hear.
- Sniff for 2 things you can smell.
- Notice 1 slow, deep breath. You found your way back!
Stretch with Gritty
- Reach your arms up as high as a treehouse.
- Fold down low and let your arms dangle.
- Stretch way over to one side, then the other.
- Now shake it all out — wiggle like a goat!
Take a drink of water
- Get a cup of cool water.
- Take slow, small sips.
- Feel the cool water helping your body find its calm.
Take a movement break
- March in place and count to twenty.
- Do ten big hops, like a goat on a hill.
- Or take a little walk.
- Moving your body helps big feelings shrink.
Use a kind thought
- Pick a kind thought that is true — like "I can do hard things" or "This feeling will pass."
- Take one slow breath.
- Say your kind thought to yourself three times.
- Notice how your body listens.
Talk to a trusted grown-up
- Find your grown-up.
- Say: "I have a big feeling."
- Naming a feeling is a superpower — and you never have to carry one alone.
Breathe with Gritty
Five slow breaths, together. Smell the flower… blow out the candle.
Ready when you are.
